As the governorship election is drawing near in Ondo State, the immediate former chairman of the state All Progressives Congress, Mr Isaac Kekemeke, has called on the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, to promote unity in the party.

Both the governor and the former chairman, as well as some other chieftains of the party, have declared their interests in contesting the ticket of the party in July 2020 primary election.

The governor was alleged to have made some statements capable of causing further disunity in the party during the just-concluded third-anniversary of his administration.

Kekemeke, who featured on a Positive FM, Akure, political programme, cautioned the governor against making inciting statements out of provocation in the interest of the party’s unity.

He said, “I have also seen some video clips flying around and I just want to believe that the governor did not make the statement. We are in a time where you can see all manner of clips.

“So I want to believe that the governor did not make the statement and if he did, I want to assume that it was a slip and if it was a slip, I want to think that the governor should have never allowed himself to be provoked to say those things he said as a governor.

“Those who are provoking him should stop doing that, but he too should stop allowing himself to be provoked so that we can have one big party. That was what I did when I became the chairman of the party, pulled this party together and that is where I stand.

“I can no longer be called into supporting an anti governor’s group. I also can not be a pro-governor person, his mouthpiece, i can not.”

A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, who expressed the assurance of winning the APC ticket and the forthcoming governorship election, said he would ensure that unity returned to the party, after winning the election.

“When I become the governor of this state, I will pull the party together again, the same thing that I did when I was the chairman of the party,” he stated.
