Two siblings drown in Ebonyi river
Tragedy struck the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Sunday as two siblings drowned in a river.
The victims, Emmanuel Chiaha, 17; and Christopher Chiaha, 13; got drowned in the popular Ndibe Beach, Afikpo.
The two brothers were said to have left their home around 3 pm for a jog but failed to return.
Family members, relatives, well-wishers, and friends embarked on a search but to no avail.
It was later gathered that their bodies were found floating down the river.
However, the circumstances surrounding their deaths could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Odah Loveth, confirmed the incident.
The PPRO said that their corpses had been deposited in the mortuary and added that the matter was being investigated.
Odah said, “Yes, it was this Sunday, the Afikpo North Division reported the incident at 10.30 pm. One Chiaha Madabuchi reported the sudden and unnatural deaths of two of his sons, namely Chiaha Emmanuel, 17 years old; and Chiaha Christopher, 13 years old. They got drowned where they allegedly went swimming at Ndibe Beach, Afikpo about 3 pm after leaving the house on the pretence that they were going to jog.
“Police visited the beach, and their corpses were photographed and deposited at the mortuary. Afikpo North Division is investigating. But, there is no sign of violence found on their bodies.
“I don’t know how they got drowned and what took them to the beach. For now, we are still investigating.”
